XMM lower module assembly arrives at ESTEC

14 October 1998

The XMM lower module assembly, which consists of the Service Module and associated telescope tube, has arrived at ESTEC for the final sequence of environmental tests.

ESA's X-ray Multi-Mirror satellite (XMM) is an observatory in the soft X-rays portion of the electromagnetic spectrum to be launched by Ariane-5 on 21 January 2000. By virtue of its large collecting area telescope and highly eccentric orbit, it will allow for long observations of X-ray sources with an unprecedented sensitivity.
