This image is of the 0.3-10 keV EPIC-pn view of the central region of M31 as observed in June 2000. The positions of ten variable sources are indicated with circles. The newly discovered supersoft source is identified by the circle labelled 9.
EPIC-pn is one of the instruments on board ESA's XMM-Newton X-ray observatory.
