Projected Footprints of Satellites
Ionospheric footprints of several spacecraft on 25 November 2001 around 0200 UT, obtained by projecting the spacecraft location along the Earth's magnetic field lines:
- in blue for the Polar spacecraft (0100-0400 UT)
- in purple for Cluster (0000-0130 UT)
- in green for the geostationary GOES satellites
The projection looks down on the northern hemisphere with noon (12 hours in Magnetic Local Time) at the top of the figure. The field-of-view of 6 High Frequency (HF) radars of the SuperDARN network, enabling the observation of plasma flows in the ionosphere, is indicated in black. In red, the positions of the CANOPUS now called CARISMA (University of Alberta, Canada) and SAMNET (Lancaster University, UK) magnetometers chains.
