Close up view of the Shock Generation Unit (SHOGUN) and its initiator bolted to the bottom of the Launch Vehicle Adapter (LVA) – after the test. The SHOGUN contained a small amount of explosive sandwiched between its LVA interface and a metal band. When the explosive was fired, the sections of the band deformed and a mechanical shock was induced in the base of the LVA to simulate the pyrotechnic initiation of fairing separation.
