On 13 May 2005 at 17:00 UT a good-sized (M-8) X-ray flare and a CME (Coronal Mass Ejection) erupted from the Sun from the area of Active Region 759.

The large sunspot of the active region can be seen in the yellow MDI image of the Sun, at the upper left.

The flare can be seen as a bright, almost white area in the EIT 195 Angstrom (green) image of the Sun's corona at the lower left.

This CME was directed towards the Earth (halo CME) impacting our planet on 15 May.
