The General Observer scientific observations for the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope's first year of operation have been selected. Proposals from ESA member states comprise 33% of the total number of selected proposals and correspond to 30% of the available telescope time on Webb.

After consulting with the JWST Users Committee, STScI, NASA, ESA, and CSA have finalized the review schedule for Cycle 1 proposals. The JWST Cycle 1 General Observer (GO) proposal deadline will be 08:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) on Tuesday November 24, 2020. ​​​​​​​

The JWST Cycle 1 call for proposals has now been reopened, with up to 6,000 hours available for general observers (GO). Proposals are due by 8 p.m. Eastern Time on May 1, 2020. The Cycle 1 Time Allocation Committee will meet in late July/early August 2020.

The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) has announced the Call for Proposals for the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Director's Discretionary Early Release Science (DD ERS) program. The proposal submission deadline is 18 August 2017, 20:00 EDT.

STScI has issued a call for expressions of interest from community members who would like to serve as members of the James Webb Space Telescope Users Committee (JSTUC). At least two members of JSTUC will be astronomers from ESA member states. The deadline for receipt of nominations is 14 February 2017.

The 49th ESLAB symposium will be an international meeting dedicated to the presentation and discussion of future scientific research that will be enabled by the James Webb Space Telescope.
