Between 8 and 11 December 2009 a team of astronomers from NASA/GSFC performed observations of ozone in the Martian atmosphere using the Heterodyne Instrument for Planetary Wind And Composition (HIPWAC) at the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility (IRTF) in Hawai'i. The observations were coordinated with observations made during the same period by the SPICAM instrument onboard the Mars Express spacecraft, in orbit around Mars. This photo shows two of the team members at work during the observations at IRTF. From left to right, they are: Kelly Fast (Principal investigator, Mars ozone programme) and Timothy Livengood (Co-investigator, Mars ozone programme).
