PROBA-2's view of the 2012 Venus transit

Date: 05 June 2012
Satellite: PROBA-2
Depicts: Venus solar transit
Copyright: ESA

The solar transit of Venus in the night of 5-6 June 2012 has been observed with SWAP, the extreme-ultraviolet telescope onboard ESA's PROBA-2 microsatellite.

In this image, taken near the start of the transit of Venus across the Sun's disk, SWAP sees Venus as a small, black circle, obscuring the extreme-ultraviolet light emitted from the solar atmosphere.
