Iron and Silicon Radial Distribution in Galaxy Cluster Sérsic 159-03

Date: 11 May 2006
Satellite: XMM-Newton

The radial distribution of iron and silicon in the cluster of galaxies Sérsic 159-03. While iron is produced mainly by type Ia supernovae, the silicon is produced by both the Type Ia and the core collapse supernova types. The distribution of silicon relative to iron in this cluster is very different to that from cluster 2A 0335+096. This shows that these two clusters had a different evolution.
