Iron and Silicon Radial Distribution in Galaxy Cluster 2A 0335+096

Date: 11 May 2006
Satellite: XMM-Newton

The radial distribution of iron and silicon in the cluster of galaxies 2A 0335+096. While iron is produced mainly by type Ia supernovae, the silicon is produced by both the Type Ia and the core collapse supernova types. The distribution of silicon relative to iron in this cluster is very different to that from cluster Sérsic 159-03. This shows that these two clusters had a different evolution.
