Comet 67P/C-G on 14 February 2015 (04:32 - 04:51 UTC) - NavCam montage

Four-image montage of Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko comprising images taken on 14 February 2015 during the first dedicated close flyby.

Starting at 04:32 UTC the four images were taken in sequence by Rosetta's navigation camera (NavCam) as a 2×2 raster over a period of about twenty minutes, meaning that there is some motion of the spacecraft and rotation of the comet between the images.

This image set was taken at an average distance of 35.0 km from the comet centre. The image scale is about 3.0 m/pixel and the montage measures about 6.1 km across.

Closest approach of about 6 km from the comet's surface took place at 12:41 UTC.

The images have been cleaned to remove the more obvious bad pixels and cosmic ray artefacts, and intensities have been scaled. Some contrast enhancement has been applied. The four individual images are also available as related images in the right-hand menu.

More images of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko can be found in the '67P - by Rosetta' collection.
