Comet 67P/C-G on 26 February 2015 (02:13 UTC) - NavCam

Date: 03 March 2015
Satellite: Rosetta
Depicts: Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko

Rosetta navigation camera (NavCam) image taken on 26 February 2015 at 84.8 km from the centre of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The image measures 7.4 km across and has a scale of about 7.2 m/pixel.

The image has been cleaned to remove the more obvious bad pixels and cosmic ray artefacts, and intensities have been scaled.

The exposure time was about two seconds. The phase angle was very small – the Sun was illuminating the comet from behind Rosetta. This geometrical configuration, along with the relatively long exposure time, caused some parts of the nucleus to be slightly over-exposed.

Another version of this image, which has been enhanced to bring out the details of the comet's activity, is available here.

More images of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko can be found in the '67P - by Rosetta' collection.
