Tracking comet debris around comet 67P/C-G - OSIRIS WAC
Sequence of 10 images taken with the OSIRIS wide-angle camera (WAC) on 10 September 2014, showing a piece of comet debris in the vicinity of Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The piece is seen moving against the background of fixed stars and was found to be on an outward bound trajectory.
Each image, a portion of the full WAC field of view, spans 1.9×2.1 degrees. The individual images were taken with an exposure of 10.2 seconds, with 60 seconds between the beginning of each exposure.
Transient point sources are also visible, likely due to cosmic rays, while the long streaks visible in some frames are caused by dust grains that happened to be close to the Rosetta spacecraft during the exposure.
