Cassini-Huygens Participating Scientists
Announcement of Opportunity 2015
7 May 2015
The scientific community is invited to submit proposals for participation to the Cassini-Huygens mission through the Participating Scientists (PS) programme. This Announcement of Opportunity (AO) is issued jointly by ESA, NASA, and ASI. A brief statement of work is due on 1 June 2015; the full proposal is due on 18 August 2015.The objective of the Cassini-Huygens Participating Scientists AO is to enhance the scientific return of the Cassini-Huygens mission by allowing the broad scientific community to participate to the mission. The first Cassini-Huygens Participating Scientists AO was released in April 2011 and the opportunity has been offered to the scientific community with yearly cadence.
This is the final year that the Cassini Participating Scientist program will be offered.
The proposal submission process for the present AO is centralized at NASA. NASA, ESA and ASI will perform the evaluation and selection jointly.
Scientists interested in applying for a Participating Scientist position should propose a science investigation that addresses one or more of the Cassini science objectives listed in the AO. These investigations can either be instrument-specific or multidisciplinary.
European proposals should include a letter of commitment covering the financial support for both the investigation and the Participating Scientist duties as detailed in the AO.
Details regarding the Cassini-Huygens mission as well as the Participating Scientist role and the allowed scientific investigations can be found in the AO, available at this URL http://tinyurl.com/CDAPS2015 (and also linked from the right-hand menu).
Proposals have to be submitted in two-steps.
- The documentation for Step-1 (a brief statement of work) is due on 1 June 2015. No initial selection is performed based on Step-1 documentation, which therefore de facto constitutes an extended "Letter of Intent".
- Proposals (Step-2) are due on 18 August 2015.
Proposals for Participating Scientist to the Cassini-Huygens mission should be prepared in accordance with the information provided at:
and should be submitted electronically through the above website.
