Back Vibration test of the CHEOPS satellite: lateral shaking

Vibration test of the CHEOPS satellite: lateral shaking

Date: 31 August 2018
Satellite: CHEOPS
Depicts: CHEOPS satellite
Location: RUAG Space, Zurich, Switzerland
Copyright: ESA/Airbus/RUAG

During vibration testing performed at RUAG Space in Zurich, Switzerland, the CHEOPS satellite was shaken longitudinally (end-to-end) and in two lateral directions (side-to-side). Here, CHEOPS is mounted on a lateral shaker with the science instrument protected by a dust cover. A range of vibrational frequencies was tested and the strength of vibration at each frequency was carefully chosen using numerical simulations that modelled the response of the satellite when coupled to the launch vehicle.
