CHEOPS first dark image

Date: 09 January 2020
Satellite: CHEOPS
Copyright: University of Bern

This figure shows the first 'dark image' obtained by ESA's Characterising Exoplanet Satellite, CHEOPS, as part of the in-orbit commissioning. Acquired on 9 January 2020 while keeping the telescope cover closed, the full-frame image demonstrates that the instrument performs as expected.

The image was obtained by commanding the instrument to stand-by mode, activating the software that controls the focal plane detector. Preliminary checks on the focal plane detector parameters indicate its good health and proper read-out.
