In February 2007, Rosetta flies past Mars at a distance of about 250 km. This gravity assist is the second in a series of four planetary flybys (Earth, Mars, Earth, and again Earth) that together will set Rosetta on course for comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.
