No. 113 - Near Sun Hibernation Mode

Report for Period 4 April to 1 May 2009The reporting period covers the first four weeks of the passive cruise phase #6, which started on 2 April. During this phase the Rosetta spacecraft is configured in Near Sun Hibernation Mode (NSHM) and will remain so until beginning of September. During the reporting period the performance of the spacecraft and the ground segment have been nominal.

Mission operations have been conducted with support of the ESA New Norcia (NNO) ground station.

At the end of the reporting period (DoY 121) Rosetta was at 327.6 million km from Earth (2.18 AU) and the one-way signal travel time was 1093 seconds. The distance to the Sun was 304.5 million km (2.03 AU).

All instruments are now switched OFF, except for the Standard Radiation Environment Monitor (SREM) that continues to run in the background.

Since DoY 091/2009 the accumulation settings are configured for passive cruise mode.

Future Milestones

The current passive cruise phase will continue until beginning of September when the spacecraft will be reconfigured in active cruise mode in preparation of the Earth swing-by 3 phase.
