Optical navigation campaign for Lutetia flyby has started

The optical navigation campaign for Rosetta's flyby of asteroid (21) Lutetia on 10 July 2010 started on 31 May 2010. The first images in this campaign were taken with the two navigation cameras (NAVCAM A and B) on-board Rosetta.

The image above was taken on 31 May by NAVCAM A, at 03:45:07 UTC, when the spacecraft was at a distance of about 53 million kilometres from the asteroid.

The image is centred on Lutetia. The brightest star in this field of view is β Vir, or Hipparcos no. 57757, belonging to the constellation Virgo.
