Comet 67P/C-G on 14 September 2014 - NavCam montage

Date: 17 September 2014
Satellite: Rosetta
Depicts: Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko

Montage of four images taken by Rosetta's navigation camera (NAVCAM) on 14 September 2014 at about 30 km from the centre of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The four images were taken in sequence as a 2×2 raster over a short period, meaning that there is some motion of the spacecraft and rotation of the comet between the images.

The images have been cleaned to remove the more obvious bad 'pixel pairs' and cosmic ray artefacts, intensities have been scaled, and the montage has been cropped to remove most of the black space around the comet. The dark feature in the centre is an imaging artefact.

The four individual full-frame images are also available as related images in the right-hand menu. A mosaic of the four images stitched together is available here.

More images of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko can be found in the '67P - by Rosetta' collection.
