Rosetta navigation camera (NavCam) image taken on 14 February 2015 during the first dedicated close flyby of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko.

Starting at 14:15 UTC, over a period of about twenty minutes, four NavCam images were taken in sequence as a 2×2 raster – each image showing only part of the comet. This is the fourth image in the sequence, taken at 14:33 UTC from a distance of 11.4 km from the comet centre, or about 9.4 km from the surface. Using the surface distance, the image scale is 0.80 m/pixel and the frame measures about 0.8 km across.

A montage of all four images from this sequence is available here and a mosaic of the four images stitched together is available here.

Closest approach of about 6 km from the comet's surface took place at 12:41 UTC.

The image has been cleaned to remove the more obvious bad pixels and cosmic ray artefacts, and intensities have been scaled.

More images of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko can be found in the '67P - by Rosetta' collection.
