Four-image montage of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko comprising images taken on 28 March 2015 during a close flyby.

Starting at 14:35 UTC the four images were taken in sequence by Rosetta's navigation camera (NavCam) as a 2×2 raster over a period of about twenty minutes, meaning that there is some motion of the spacecraft and rotation of the comet between the images.

This image set was taken at an average distance of 16.6 km from the comet centre. The average image scale is 1.4 m/pixel and each 1024 × 1024 pixel frame measures about 1.4 km across.

Closest approach of less than 14 km from the comet's surface took place at 13:04 UTC.

The images have been cleaned to remove the more obvious bad pixels and cosmic ray artefacts, and intensities have been scaled. Some contrast enhancement has been applied. The four individual images are also available as related images in the right-hand menu.

More images of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko can be found in the '67P - by Rosetta' collection.
