Fractures on a cliff on comet 67P/C-G, close-up

Date: 18 August 2015
Satellite: Rosetta
Depicts: Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko
Copyright: See below

This close-up is part of an image taken with Rosetta's OSIRIS narrow-angle camera of the Ash region, located on the large lobe of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. It shows a small fracture that appears to cut through a scarp edge and the smooth coating on the top, which is a morphologic characteristic of the Ash region.

An annotated version of this image, with an indication of the physical scale, is available as an inset in this larger context image.
