SMART-1 raised up to meet its launcher

Date: 17 September 2003
Satellite: SMART-1
Location: BAF, Kourou, French Guiana
Copyright: ESA

On 17 September, SMART-1 was raised up into the heights of the BAF (Bâtiment d'Intégration Finale) to meet the Ariane 5 launcher. The spacecraft looked very small, carrying its Ariane 5 mounting adapter as it raised the 30 metres up to the top of the launcher. Within an hour it was sitting tightly on the upper stage and the SES team could remove the hoisting blocks for the last time.
